Can the Crack on the Windshield Be Repaired?

In general, cracks on the windshield can be repaired. If the crack is only the size of a coin, it can be restored through repair. However, if the crack is too long, it is not recommended to repair it, as it is prone to cracking again over time, and the strength of the windshield cannot be guaranteed, posing certain safety hazards. In such cases, it is advisable to replace the windshield as soon as possible. Cleaning with windshield washer fluid: Use specialized windshield washer fluid for cleaning. For glass, there is definitely specialized washer fluid available. Using windshield washer fluid not only helps keep the windshield clean but also increases lubrication to prevent damage from the wipers. Applying car window film: The windshield must have a light transmittance of more than 70% to ensure driving safety. Additionally, dark heat-insulating films should not be applied. It is also important to choose a film with a high UV protection index to protect the dashboard components from premature aging due to prolonged exposure.
Small cracks on the windshield can definitely be repaired – I've had mine fixed twice. The key is the type and size of the crack; coin-sized bullseye or short-line cracks are most suitable for repair. The repair shop will first drill a hole at the crack, then use equipment to create a vacuum and inject special resin, followed by UV curing and polishing. The whole process takes about half an hour and doesn’t affect visibility or strength at all. But two things to note: first, if the crack is larger than a coin or located directly in the driver’s line of sight, it’s better to replace the windshield instead of repairing it; second, don’t delay too long, as dirt entering the crack makes it harder to fix. Last time I got hit by a stone, I went for repair on the third day and spent just over 200 yuan, which is much more cost-effective than replacing the entire windshield.
