Can the Clutch and Brake Be Pressed Simultaneously in a Manual Transmission?

Theoretically, the brake and clutch can be pressed together, but pressing the clutch is equivalent to shifting into neutral. Without gear engagement, the braking distance of the car will be extended, which can easily lead to safety hazards. Especially during emergency braking, pressing both the brake and clutch in a manual transmission is more likely to cause a rear-end collision. Correct Approach: During normal driving, try to avoid pressing the brake and clutch simultaneously. The correct method is to press the brake first and then press the clutch when downshifting is required. Starting with the Brake: Foot Brake Start: With the foot brake pressed, depress the clutch, shift into first gear, and release the clutch to the semi-engagement point. When the body slightly vibrates and the front of the car lifts, release the foot brake, and the vehicle will start moving slowly. Hand Brake Start: When starting with the hand brake, there is no need to press the foot brake. This method is used on slopes where the hand brake is engaged to stabilize the parked car. The specific steps are: hold the steering wheel firmly with the left hand, depress the clutch, shift into first gear, place the right hand on the hand brake, release the clutch to the semi-engagement point, and immediately release the hand brake to allow the vehicle to move forward smoothly.
