The auto headlights can be kept on all the time. The auto headlight is an automatic headlight system installed by some manufacturers for the convenience of drivers. It is equipped with a light-sensing control system. When the system detects that the external light intensity is above or below a certain threshold, the car headlights will automatically turn on or off. It is worth mentioning that many people mistakenly believe that "automatic headlights" are specifically designed for driving through tunnels, but this is not the case. The activation of automatic headlights has a delay, meaning the headlights will only turn on automatically within a few seconds after the light-sensing system detects the dimming of light. According to traffic regulations, cars must turn on their headlights before entering a tunnel. Therefore, when driving through a tunnel, it is still necessary to manually turn on the headlights in advance.

You can indeed keep the headlights in the AUTO position all the time. I've been using it this way since I bought the car. The AUTO mode is very intelligent—it relies on the light sensor on the windshield to monitor ambient brightness, automatically turning on the headlights when it gets dark and turning them off when it's bright. This ensures timely illumination during dawn, dusk, or when entering tunnels, enhancing driving safety while eliminating the risk of forgetting to manually operate the lights. I find it especially convenient on cloudy days or mountain roads, as the lights adjust instantly, reducing accident risks. Keeping AUTO on doesn’t drain much power because modern car computer systems optimize battery usage, consuming energy only when necessary, with minimal long-term impact on the vehicle. However, ensure the sensor isn’t blocked by dust or tinting film, as this may reduce responsiveness—regular windshield cleaning is recommended. Overall, this design is a hassle-free and practical choice, making driving much easier.

As a daily driver, I believe auto headlights can definitely be left on all the time. They automatically respond to light changes—turning off during the day to save power and switching on in low light for safety. This mechanism prevents battery drain from forgetting to turn lights off. I make it a habit to set them to auto as soon as I get in the car, eliminating any need to manually operate them. This is especially useful for nighttime driving or passing through low-light areas. Although regulations don’t mandate keeping auto lights on, they help comply with driving rules under varying light conditions. One thing to note: if the sensor malfunctions (e.g., covered by snow), the lights may not work, so regular checks are necessary. Long-term use is fine—the system defaults to this mode and won’t damage components. The biggest benefit of auto headlights while driving is convenience—no more worrying about lights not turning on when it gets dark, allowing me to focus fully on the road.

The headlights can stay on in the auto position. I've tested it multiple times - in auto mode, the sensors detect ambient light to automatically turn the lights on/off. This is designed to operate continuously. Keeping them on doesn't harm the vehicle, as the lights only activate when needed, with minimal power consumption. Occasionally, the lights may turn on unexpectedly under tree shade, but it's not a major issue. Just keep the sensors clean.
