Can tap water be used directly as windshield washer fluid?

Windshield washer fluid cannot be directly replaced with tap water. Windshield washer fluid is completely different from conventional tap water, as it not only has cleaning functions but also possesses multiple properties such as anti-static, anti-fog, lubrication, and anti-freeze. However, using tap water as a substitute for windshield washer fluid may cause impurities to adhere to rubber pipes, leading to clogged pipelines and affecting normal water spraying. Long-term use of tap water may increase friction between the glass surface and the wiper blades, resulting in scratches on the glass. Generally, windshield washer fluids on the market are divided into three main categories: 1. Summer-use type, which adds insect repellent ingredients to the original composition to quickly remove insect residues on the windshield and effectively clean insect marks on the front of the car; 2. Winter-use type, which ensures that it does not freeze or damage car facilities even when the external temperature is below -20 degrees Celsius, and also has a certain effect of melting snow and ice. In cold winter weather when the windshield needs to be cleaned on the road, windshield washer fluid can not only clean effectively but also absorb static electricity; 3. Special anti-freeze type, which ensures that it does not freeze even at -40 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for use in the extremely cold regions of northern China.
