Can New Energy Vehicles Use Blue License Plates?

New energy vehicles cannot use blue license plates and require green license plates. New energy vehicles refer to automobiles that utilize unconventional vehicle fuels as their power source, integrating advanced technologies in vehicle power control and driving systems, resulting in vehicles with advanced technical principles, new technologies, and innovative structures. New energy vehicles include: hybrid electric vehicles, pure electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, and other new energy vehicles. License plates, also known as vehicle registration plates, are plates made of materials such as aluminum, sheet metal, plastic, or paper, displaying the vehicle's registration number, registration region, or other relevant information, and are mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle.
I did some thorough research on this when I switched to an electric vehicle two years ago. Since late 2016, new energy vehicles can no longer get blue license plates nationwide - they're all issued with gradient green exclusive plates now. I have a friend who didn't believe it and insisted on trying, but the DMV straight up refused to process it. You can still spot some new energy vehicles with blue plates on the road, but they're basically 'antiques' purchased before 2017. The funniest thing was last week when I saw a Tesla with a blue plate - upon closer look, it turned out the owner had put on fake plates and got pulled over by traffic police with heavy fines. When buying a new energy vehicle now, remember to first check the accompanying purchase tax exemption certificate and vehicle conformity certificate. Actually, getting green plates is much faster than for fuel vehicles - just scan a QR code to select your number and it's done in half an hour.
