Unconventional vehicle fuels refer to fuels other than gasoline and diesel. To better promote the development of new energy vehicles, facilitate their identification, and implement differentiated traffic management policies, the Ministry of Public Security has introduced special license plates for new energy vehicles.

Moreover, the vehicle may be impounded, and insurance companies might deny claims. However, policies differ in Hong Kong and Macau—for example, new energy vehicles in Macau use white plates. In short, to avoid trouble, the green plate must be properly displayed.
