Can motorcycles be equipped with ETC?

Motorcycles cannot be equipped with ETC. How ETC works: Through the on-board electronic tag installed on the vehicle's windshield, it communicates with the microwave antenna in the ETC lane of the toll station via dedicated short-range communication. It uses computer networking technology to perform background settlement processing with the bank, thereby achieving the purpose of vehicles passing through highway or bridge toll stations without stopping to pay fees. ETC usage precautions: The ETC transaction sensing range is 8 meters. When encountering a vehicle in front that has stopped, to prevent the vehicle in front from having a faulty ETC device or no ETC device at all, maintain a distance of more than 10 meters to avoid automatic sensing and paying for the vehicle in front. The recognized speed for ETC lane passage is 20km/h. If the speed is too fast, the vehicle device information cannot be read, which will also result in failed fee deduction. Unauthorized removal or movement of the OBU device, or if the ETC electronic tag falls off or becomes loose, will cause the electronic tag to fail. It can be sent to the bank where the ETC card was issued or the highway service office for inspection. If the loosening or falling off is not due to human factors, it only needs to be reactivated. When using a debit card linked to ETC, insufficient balance will also result in failed fee deduction. Follow the guidance of on-site staff to go to the manual MTC lane and use cash or card payment to pass. If the car windshield is too thick, it may cause poor sensing. This is especially important for vehicles that have had their windshields replaced after accidents or for those who have modified their front windshields.
Last year, I installed an ETC device on my motorcycle, which has made highway travel much more convenient. The process was completed in just a few simple steps at our local service center. The device is compact and doesn’t get in the way, securely fixed above the handlebars with special adhesive. On the highway, there’s no need to stop for toll payments, saving queue time and even a bit of fuel consumption. Before installation, I checked that ETC is compatible with motorcycles, but the positioning must be chosen carefully to avoid the risk of falling off on bumpy roads. I also added a waterproof cover, so riding in the rain isn’t a concern. Cost-wise, the initial installation fee was just a few dozen yuan, similar to cars, and it saves on toll fees annually. Overall, if you frequently ride long distances, this investment is well worth it.
