Can motor vehicle license plates be transferred?

License plates cannot be transferred. At most, you can only apply to use the original license plate number on a new vehicle after transferring ownership or scrapping the old one. Nominally transferred license plates are actually 'bound' to the vehicle registration, becoming one entity. By transferring the property rights of the vehicle, the vehicle's information is changed and registered under the new owner's name, thereby achieving the purpose of license plate transfer. If you want to replace your vehicle with a new one and continue using the original license plate, you need to meet the following three conditions: 1. Three years or more: The original license plate has been used for three years or more; 2. Within six months: The application to continue using the original license plate must be made within six months after completing the transfer registration or cancellation registration; 3. No violations: All traffic safety violations and accident records related to the original motor vehicle must be resolved.
