Can LED car lights pass the annual inspection?

Whether modified LED headlights can pass the annual inspection depends on the specifications and performance of the modified headlights. If the color temperature, brightness, and beam angle of the modified headlights meet the national requirements and do not affect driving safety, they can pass the inspection. There are two main aspects to check: Whether the brightness meets the requirements, meaning the brightness should not be less than 1400 lumens. Whether the beam angle is up to standard, as long as the high and low beam angles are normal. Essentially, as long as the modified LED headlights do not compromise driving safety, they can pass the annual inspection. Relevant regulations for vehicle annual inspections: Vehicles that fail the inspection must be repaired within a specified period. If they still fail after the deadline, the vehicle management office will confiscate their license plates and prohibit further use. Vehicles that do not participate in the inspection without reason or fail the inspection are not allowed to drive on the road or be transferred. Vehicles that meet the scrapping conditions or exceed the prescribed service life will not be inspected, and their license plates will be revoked, their records deleted, and they will be scrapped.
This issue is quite important. Nowadays, many car owners modify their vehicles with LED headlights for fashion, but whether they can pass the annual inspection depends on compliance with national standards. In China, vehicle annual inspections have strict regulations on lighting, including requirements for brightness and color temperature to be within specified ranges. Factory-installed LED lights are definitely compliant as they pass testing before leaving the factory. However, most aftermarket LED modifications fail the inspection, mainly because modified lights may exceed brightness limits or have misaligned angles, causing glare issues. I've seen cases where people thought they upgraded their headlights, only to be rejected at the inspection station and fined for corrections. So, don’t modify randomly—first check local regulations or choose certified accessories. My advice: don’t bother unless necessary. Safety comes first. Failing the inspection wastes both time and money. It’s better to regularly check the condition of your factory lights during maintenance.
