When purchasing a used car, you can use your previous license plate number, and the original license plate can be retained for 2 years. 1. According to Article 7 of "10 New Measures for Public Security Traffic Management Reform to Streamline Administration, Delegate Power, and Improve Services" issued by the Ministry of Public Security, the scope of using original license plate numbers has been expanded. For non-operational vehicles registered under the same owner with the same type of license plate, an application can be made to swap license plate numbers between vehicles, better meeting the needs of individuals and organizations. 2. The same vehicle can change its license plate number once a year. The time limit for using the original license plate number has been relaxed. After the original vehicle is deregistered, transferred out, or reassigned, the time limit for retaining the original number has been adjusted from one year to two years.
