Can I Take Subject 3 Before Subject 2 in the Driving Test?

Subject 3 cannot be taken before Subject 2 in the driving test. According to the regulations, the content and passing standards of the driving test are unified nationwide, and the test sequence must follow Subject 1, Subject 2, Subject 3, and Subject 4 in order. Only after passing the previous subject can you proceed to the next one. Currently, only a few regions allow simultaneous testing of Subjects 2 and 3, but in most areas, you must pass one subject before scheduling the next. Important notes for Subject 3: 1. After the Subject 3 test begins, you must walk around the vehicle to inspect its surroundings. Once inside, check that the doors are properly closed and immediately fasten your seatbelt. Before starting, observe the rearview mirrors and strictly follow the test requirements. 2. When changing lanes, turn on the turn signal, check the rearview mirror, and ensure it is safe to proceed. Confirm that the ground traffic markings are dashed lines and avoid changing lanes on bridges or other prohibited road sections. 3. When exiting the vehicle, unfasten the seatbelt, check the left rearview mirror for safety, and only then open the door to exit. Close the door properly to conclude the test.
Many people have asked me this question, after all, the reverse parking in Subject 2 is quite challenging. According to the national unified regulations, the driver's license test must be taken in order: you can only take Subject 2 after passing Subject 1, and you are eligible for Subject 3 only after passing Subject 2. However, last year the policy was relaxed, and in pilot cities like Shenzhen and Chengdu, it is indeed possible to apply to take the Subject 3 road test first and then go back to complete the Subject 2 field test later. This model is particularly friendly to office workers in suburban areas, as it offers more flexible practice time for the road test. If the new policy hasn’t been implemented in your area yet, it’s recommended to follow the traditional order, as the skills from Subject 2 are quite helpful for the road test, saving you the hassle and expense of taking the test twice.
