Can I Replace Just One Tire on My Car?

When replacing tires, it is generally not advisable to replace just one; instead, you should replace a symmetrical pair of tires. The reasons are as follows: 1. Tires are often used under complex and demanding conditions, enduring various deformations, loads, forces, and high and low temperatures during driving. Therefore, they must have high load-bearing performance, traction performance, and cushioning performance, which greatly determine the safety of the vehicle. 2. If the old tire is relatively new, it is recommended to replace it with the same model of tire. This is because differences in tread depth can affect the safety of the car during high-speed driving and in rainy or snowy conditions. When the tread pattern of the new tire differs significantly from that of the old tire, it can lead to inconsistent grip, causing the vehicle to pull to one side. Therefore, it is advisable to replace both tires on the same axle. 3. The new tires should preferably be installed on the drive wheels, and after replacement, a wheel balance should be performed. The replaced tires can be used as spare tires.
