As long as they are not too heavy or prone to fading, small items can be placed on the roof. Small Cars: Typically refers to models with a wheelbase between 2400-2550mm, such as the Honda Fit, Toyota Vios, Ford Fiesta, etc. Compact Cars: Usually refers to models with a wheelbase between 2550-2700mm. These are the mainstream models for family sedans, such as the Volkswagen Sagitar, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, etc. Midsize Cars: Generally refers to models with a wheelbase between 2700-2850mm. These models are often used for both family and business purposes, such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Magotan.
I've tried carrying items like tents or luggage on the roof of my sedan during road trips before. It's completely feasible, but safety concerns must be taken seriously. In windy conditions, roof cargo significantly increases wind resistance, potentially causing fuel consumption to spike and handling to deteriorate, making the car unstable when turning. If the load is too heavy or not properly secured, items could blow off and hit following vehicles - an especially dangerous situation on highways. I recommend using dedicated roof racks for mounting, ensuring the rack is firmly installed, never exceeding the manufacturer's recommended weight limit, and regularly checking tie-down straps for wear. Also, avoid stacking items too high to prevent collisions with height-restricted obstacles. When done properly, roof storage can effectively expand cargo space and make travel more convenient.
