You cannot get a driver's license at the nominal age of 18. The age requirements for applying for a driver's license are as follows: 1. For small cars, small automatic transmission cars, and light motorcycles, the applicant must be between 18 and 70 years old; 2. For low-speed trucks, three-wheeled cars, ordinary three-wheeled motorcycles, ordinary two-wheeled motorcycles, or wheeled self-propelled machinery, the applicant must be between 18 and 60 years old; 3. For city buses, medium-sized buses, large trucks, trolleybuses, or trams, the applicant must be between 21 and 50 years old; 4. For tractors, the applicant must be between 24 and 50 years old; 5. For large buses, the applicant must be between 26 and 50 years old.
I just turned 18 in nominal age and was excited to get my driver's license, only to find out it's not possible! In China, you must be at least 18 years old in actual age to take the driving test, not nominal age. Nominal age is calculated traditionally, counting one year at birth and adding another year each Chinese New Year, so when I'm 18 in nominal age, my actual age might only be around 16 or 17. If you sign up before reaching the actual age requirement, driving schools will directly reject you because the policy is strict. Now I have to patiently wait for my birthday, using this time to study driving theory and practice test questions, so I can start right away when I truly turn 18. Don’t act impulsively to avoid a wasted trip.
