Can I Drive Without a Paper License If I Have an Electronic Driving License?

An electronic driving license can be used in scenarios such as law enforcement inspections, purchasing insurance, car rentals, expanding passenger and freight transport, and handling traffic management affairs, in which case a paper driving license is not required. However, it cannot replace a paper license in situations like license suspension or revocation. Currently, electronic driving licenses are only being piloted in some cities and have not been implemented nationwide. In cities where electronic driving licenses are already in effect, you may drive without carrying a paper driving license. The electronic license can be used for inspections but has regional limitations. While it can be used for traffic management affairs, it cannot be used for matters such as traffic violations, point deductions, license suspension, or revocation. Electronic driving licenses are more flexible than traditional ones. If there are changes in address or personal information, they can be submitted online and modified in the database after review by the vehicle administration bureau. License information will be synchronized with the database in real time. As a supplement to paper licenses, electronic licenses can also serve as backups, making it easier to reissue paper licenses. Electronic driving licenses hold the same legal validity as paper ones. An electronic vehicle license is the digital version of a vehicle license and serves as a supplement to the physical document. In cases where the physical document is not carried, the electronic version can also be accepted for roadside inspections.
