Historical traffic violation records on a driver's license can be cleared. Typically, once the demerit points are processed and the fine is paid, the violation record will disappear. If the violation is not handled at the traffic police station, the record will remain visible. According to traffic regulations, after a motor vehicle violation occurs, it generally takes 3 to 7 days to be queried online or receive an SMS notification, with the latest not exceeding 13 working days. If the violation is confirmed on-site by a traffic officer and signed, the vehicle owner must go to the local traffic police station within 15 days of the violation to handle it. Failure to do so within 15 days will result in a daily 3% late fee, but the late fee will not exceed double the original fine amount. For violations captured by electronic monitoring cameras, the vehicle owner can check the violation record on the traffic website and then go to the local traffic police station to handle it within one month before the vehicle's annual inspection. There is no need to handle it within 15 days, but it is advisable not to exceed the demerit point cycle of the driver's license to avoid accumulating 12 points in the next cycle due to untimely clearance. The vehicle owner can bring their driver's license and vehicle registration to any traffic police station in the violation area for processing. If there are no demerit points, the fine can be paid directly at ICBC or online, such as through Alipay. However, if there are demerit points, the owner must first confirm the violation and points deduction at the traffic police station before paying the fine.
