Can gasoline be stored in plastic bottles?

Gasoline should not be stored in plastic bottles as it can easily cause explosions. Most plastic bottles are made of materials such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and polyethylene, which have high resistivity and good insulation properties. When these materials come into intense friction with gasoline, they are prone to generate and accumulate static charges. The static charges generated during the filling or pouring of gasoline into plastic bottles cannot be discharged, and the potential difference between the accumulated negative charges on the bottle walls and the gasoline increases, making it easy for sparks to occur. Therefore, plastic bottles should not be used to store gasoline, and filled plastic bottles should never be placed in the driver's cabin or vehicle compartment. Otherwise, the sparks generated by the static charges in the plastic bottle could ignite gasoline vapors, potentially leading to an explosion.
