Can Flood-Damaged Vehicles Be Transferred and Insured?

After undergoing repairs, flood-damaged vehicles that meet the national safety technical standards for in-use vehicles can be normally transferred and insured. However, since the vehicle has already been involved in a flood-related insurance claim, subsequent insurance premiums will increase. The extent of the increase depends on the standards set by the insurance company. Any vehicle that has been submerged in water poses potential safety hazards. However, not all flood-damaged vehicles are declared total losses by insurance companies. This depends on the proportion of the assessed repair cost relative to the vehicle's current value. Typically, if the repair cost exceeds 70% of the vehicle's value, the insurance company will declare it a total loss and proceed with scrapping. For example, if a vehicle worth 150,000 RMB has an assessed repair cost of 90,000 RMB after water damage, the insurance company may deem the vehicle not worth repairing and negotiate with the owner to declare it a total loss. The compensation amount for a total loss is the maximum coverage limit of the vehicle damage insurance. If no absolute deductible rate is applied, the maximum coverage is the vehicle's current value. If an absolute deductible rate (5%-20%) is applied, the insurance company will only compensate 80%-95% of the vehicle's current value, based on the specific deductible rate chosen by the owner.
