China is fully capable of independently producing automotive engines, although there are some gaps compared to engines from Western countries. China's automotive engines are not developed through national projects but are instead researched and developed by individual automotive companies. Classification of automotive engines: 1. According to piston movement: They can be divided into reciprocating piston internal combustion engines and rotary piston engines. 3. According to cylinder arrangement: They include inline engines, V-type engines, W-type engines, and horizontally opposed engines. 4. According to the number of cylinders: They can be divided into single-cylinder engines and multi-cylinder engines. Modern cars mostly use three-cylinder, four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder engines.
