Can C and D licenses not be merged?

C and D licenses cannot remain unmerged. According to the new driver's license regulations, each individual can only hold one driver's license, whether it's E or D, it must be merged with C1. It is mandatory for the C1 driver's license to be combined with a motorcycle license because both types of vehicles are motor vehicles, and each person can only possess one driver's license. Therefore, to facilitate unified management by the relevant authorities, license merging is required. Both types of licenses are tested separately during the examination, but once the driver obtains the license, it must be merged. After merging, the different permitted vehicle types will be directly identified on the driver's license. For example, if someone holds a C1 driver's license and obtains a D license for a motorcycle, after merging, it becomes a C1D license. It is important to note that the merged license only has 12 demerit points, meaning demerit points from the D license will also affect the C1 license. If the demerit points reach or exceed 12 within a scoring cycle, the driver must undergo training and testing at the vehicle management office, so special attention must be paid to this. There is no need to carry multiple licenses anymore; one merged license is sufficient for both riding motorcycles and driving cars, eliminating concerns about being penalized for carrying the wrong license. Additionally, there is no need to renew the license's validity period twice; the merged license has the same validity period, and renewal is only required once at the vehicle management office upon expiration.
