An automatic transmission driver's license can drive a car with a manual-automatic transmission. According to the regulations on motor vehicle driver's license business issued by the relevant authorities, motor vehicle driver's licenses are classified into a hierarchical system, dividing them into 15 levels: A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C1, C2, C3, C4, D, E, F, M, N, and P. Among them, an A1 license permits driving large passenger vehicles; an A2 license permits driving tractors and heavy-duty or semi-trailer trucks; an A3 license permits driving city buses with a capacity of 10 or more passengers; a B1 license permits driving heavy passenger vehicles; a B2 license permits driving heavy-duty trucks; a C1 license permits driving small passenger vehicles, etc.; a C2 license permits driving small and micro automatic transmission passenger vehicles, etc.; a C3 license permits driving low-speed trucks; a C4 license permits driving three-wheeled vehicles; a D-type license permits driving three-wheeled motorcycles with an engine displacement exceeding 50cc; an E-type license permits driving two-wheeled motorcycles with an engine displacement exceeding 50cc; and an F-type license permits driving motorcycles with an engine displacement of 50cc or less.
I just got my C2 automatic transmission driver's license last year, and I specifically asked a friend at the DMV. Cars with manual-automatic transmission are actually classified within the automatic transmission category, and a C2 license is completely legal for driving them. This is because the essence of such cars is still an automatic transmission; the manual mode only simulates manual shifting operations and does not change the vehicle's automatic transmission nature. When driving, I mostly use the D gear automatic mode and hardly ever touch the manual mode. Remember the most crucial point: as long as the car doesn’t have a clutch pedal near the steering wheel, an automatic transmission license can drive it. Many people think that cars with manual mode require a manual transmission license, but this is actually a misunderstanding.
