Can an Automatic Start-Stop Battery Be Replaced with a Regular One?

An automatic start-stop battery can be replaced with a regular one, but the battery in vehicles equipped with start-stop functionality is an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) enhanced battery, which features higher current capacity. Similarly, the starter motor in vehicles with start-stop functionality also requires a higher operating current compared to standard starter motors. Although both operate at 12V, the enhanced starter motor needs the AGM battery to supply power due to the difference in current requirements. A regular battery may not provide sufficient starting current, fail to drive the starter motor effectively, or lack adequate starting power. Prolonged use of a regular battery can damage the starter motor. Therefore, even if a regular battery can be used temporarily, it may lead to a series of issues in the future.
What I want to say is that it's better not to replace the battery in a car with auto start-stop with a regular one. I've researched this issue, and the frequent engine starts by the start-stop system place high demands on the battery. AGM or EFB batteries, specifically designed for auto start-stop, have thicker plates and stronger vibration resistance. Regular batteries simply can't withstand the high-frequency, high-current impacts and will fail within a few months, leading to additional costs for replacement. Moreover, after installing a regular battery, the start-stop function may stop working altogether, and the car's computer is likely to report error codes. Rather than saving a few hundred bucks, it's safer and more cost-effective in the long run to replace it with the manufacturer-specified battery type, which also extends its lifespan.
