Temporary license plates cannot be renewed if they have expired for 10 days, but you can apply for new ones. According to the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses": After purchasing a motor vehicle, the owner can apply for temporary license plates up to three times before registration, each valid for no more than 15 days. However, already issued temporary license plates cannot be extended. Documents required for applying for temporary license plates: To apply for temporary license plates, you will need the purchaser's ID card, vehicle purchase invoice, compulsory traffic insurance policy (copy), and the vehicle's factory certificate. Copies of all four documents must be provided. Types of temporary license plates: Those with a sky-blue background, black characters, and black borders are limited to driving within the city, known as local temporary license plates. Those with a brown-yellow background, black characters, and black borders can be used for cross-city driving, known as intercity temporary license plates. Besides temporary plates for ordinary family cars, there are also temporary plates for test vehicles and special-type motor vehicles. Their appearance is similar to ordinary temporary plates but usually includes the characters "test" or "special" as an identifier.
