Can a Temporary ID Card Be Used for Subject 2 Driving Test?

A temporary ID card can be used for the Subject 2 driving test. However, if you need to use a temporary ID card because you don't have a regular ID, you must inform the driving test instructor in advance and follow the arrangements made by the driving school. According to Article 19, Paragraph 1 of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses," "first-time applicants for a motor vehicle driving license shall fill out an application form and submit their identity proof." Therefore, a temporary ID card is acceptable for the Subject 2 test. One important note: the validity period of a temporary resident ID card is three months. You can take the Subject 2 test within this period, but if the card expires, you will not be allowed to enter the test site. Therefore, make sure to take the test before the card expires. If the temporary ID expires due to special circumstances, you should promptly apply for a replacement, either a regular ID card or a new temporary ID. Subject 2, also known as the small road test, is part of the motor vehicle driving license examination and refers to the field driving skills test. For small vehicles (C1 and C2), the test includes five mandatory items: reverse parking, parallel parking, stopping and starting on a slope, right-angle turns, and curve driving (commonly known as the S-curve). In some regions, there is a sixth item: highway toll card collection. According to Article 25 of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses" (Ministry of Public Security Order No. 123), as of June 1, 2021, the stopping and starting on a slope test is no longer required for C2 and C5 license applicants. For large vehicles (AB licenses), Subject 2 includes 16 items: reverse parking, continuous obstacle navigation, curve driving, highway simulation test, width-limited gate, bumpy road, single-plank bridge, narrow road U-turn, stopping and starting on a slope, parallel parking, highway emergency handling, mountain road simulation, right-angle turns, rain and fog weather simulation, highway tire blowout, and tunnel simulation driving.
I encountered a similar issue when taking my driver's license test—a temporary ID really doesn't work. The test center checks very strictly; they require the original valid ID card to register for the second subject test. Temporary documents have too short a validity period and are easily rejected. I remember a friend last year who didn’t bring the original ID and stubbornly tried to use a temporary one, only to struggle even getting in, ultimately making a wasted trip. So, I always advise everyone to check their documents a few days in advance. If lost, hurry to the police station to reissue a formal ID—don’t wait until right before the test. After all, driving tests require serious attention, and identity verification can’t be careless—it’s not just about test eligibility but also affects subsequent license collection. If absolutely necessary, try contacting the driving school instructor for help, but don’t get your hopes up too much. Safety first, after all.
