Can a Faulty Three-Way Catalytic Converter Be Repaired?
1 Answers
A faulty three-way catalytic converter cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced directly. The three-way catalytic converter is an important external purification device installed in a vehicle's exhaust system. Its function is to convert harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides emitted from vehicle exhaust into harmless carbon dioxide, water, and nitrogen through oxidation and reduction reactions. The reasons for the failure of a three-way catalytic converter include: 1. Blockage caused by deposits such as ethanol gasoline gum carbon sintering, sulfur-phosphorus chemical complex sintering, lead-manganese metal deposits sintering, or ceramic carrier melting due to engine exhaust flames; 2. Loss of activity of the surface precious metals, rendering them unable to catalyze; 3. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures, leading to thermal deactivation.
