D license cannot drive an electric motorcycle. Driving License D: D (regular three-wheeled motorcycle), permitted to drive three-wheeled motorcycles with engine displacement greater than 50ml or maximum design speed greater than 50km/h. Other permitted vehicle types: E, F. Driving License E: E (regular two-wheeled motorcycle). Permitted to drive two-wheeled motorcycles with engine displacement greater than 50ml or maximum design speed greater than 50km/h. Driving License F: F (light motorcycle). Permitted to drive motorcycles with engine displacement less than or equal to 50ml and maximum design speed less than or equal to 50km/h.
I used to have a Class D license, which allows me to drive large buses, but it doesn’t qualify me to ride an electric motorcycle directly. The Class D license is intended for large passenger vehicles, such as tour buses or city buses, and its permitted driving scope does not include motorcycles. Electric motorcycles are categorized into electric mopeds and regular electric motorcycles, both of which legally require either a Class E or Class F license. Once, I asked a friend at a driving school, and he said that to legally ride an electric motorcycle, I’d need to upgrade to a Class E license, which involves both a theory test and a road test. Riding without the proper license could lead to fines, point deductions, or even vehicle confiscation if caught by the police—it’s both unsafe and troublesome. My advice is, if you plan to ride an electric motorcycle, check the licensing requirements beforehand to avoid legal risks.
