Can a Class C license drive a three-wheeled motorcycle?

A Class C license cannot drive a three-wheeled motorcycle. A three-wheeled motorcycle requires a Class D license to operate. However, a C1 or C4 license can drive a three-wheeled automobile. Additionally, upgrading a Class C license to a Class D license also permits driving a three-wheeled motorcycle. Permitted vehicles for a Class C license: According to the 'Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses,' a C1 driving license allows the operation of small and micro passenger vehicles, light and micro cargo vehicles, as well as light, small, and micro special-purpose vehicles. Small passenger vehicles must have a seating capacity of nine or fewer. Based on these standards, a C1 license does not permit driving vehicles with more than nine seats. Highway driving considerations for a Class C license: As per the relevant regulations in the 'Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses,' the first 12 months after obtaining a motor vehicle driving license is considered the probationary period. During this period, a C1 driver can drive on highways, provided there is a 'seasoned driver' with at least three years of driving experience seated in the front passenger seat. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a fine.
Back when I was young in the countryside, I often drove a three-wheeled tractor to transport agricultural products. One time, I got caught red-handed by the police. They said my Class C license was for small cars only and didn't qualify me to operate a three-wheeled motorcycle, which counted as unlicensed driving. I was fined and had points deducted. Thinking back now, it's really scary. Three-wheeled motorcycles require a specialized Class D license because their structure is completely different—they have an unstable center of gravity and are prone to tipping over, unlike small cars. Since then, I always remind myself to check my license type and advise friends to use the Traffic Management 12123 app to verify it clearly. Don't try using a small car license recklessly. If an accident happens, not only will insurance not cover it, but it could also implicate family members in liability. Three-wheeled motorcycles are indeed convenient, but you must first obtain a Class D license—only then is it safe and legal.
