Engine modification is illegal and cannot be driven on the road. Penalties for driving illegally modified vehicles on the road: Driving an illegally modified vehicle on the road will result in confiscation and mandatory scrapping, a fine ranging from 200 to 2,000 yuan, and revocation of the motor vehicle driver's license. Article 16 of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates that no unit or individual may engage in the following acts: Assembling a motor vehicle or altering the registered structure, construction, or characteristics of a motor vehicle without authorization; changing the model number, engine number, frame number, or vehicle identification code of a motor vehicle; forging, altering, or using forged or altered motor vehicle registration certificates, license plates, driving licenses, inspection qualification marks, or insurance marks; using the registration certificates, license plates, driving licenses, inspection qualification marks, or insurance marks of other motor vehicles.
