Can a car fuel tank be repaired?

Car fuel tanks cannot be repaired, and it is recommended to replace the fuel tank promptly as repairs pose significant safety risks. When the fuel tank has minor cracks and the damage is in a low-stress area, methods such as soldering or adhesive sealing can be used as a temporary solution. In all other cases, welding repairs are generally required. When welding a container that has previously held petroleum products, it is crucial to strictly adhere to operational procedures and enhance safety measures to avoid catastrophic consequences. The fuel tank must be thoroughly cleaned before welding, as petroleum products have strong permeation properties, and residual gas molecules are difficult to remove completely with a simple cleaning. During welding, flames may ignite any remaining combustible gas mixture inside the tank, leading to an explosion.
