BMW X5 ABS sensor warning light may illuminate due to reasons such as the ABS speed sensor sensing area being covered or poor ABS signal. ABS Speed Sensor Sensing Area Covered: When the ABS speed sensor sensing area is covered by mud, sludge, or other contaminants, it affects the sensor's ability to detect the corresponding speed signal. This prevents the ABS computer from determining the vehicle speed and calculating the wheel slip rate, thereby failing to issue appropriate commands to adjust braking. Solution: Clean the dirt from the speed sensor and adjust the gap between the speed sensor and the signal ring to restore normal operation. Poor ABS Signal: Poor signal transmission caused by loose connections between system wires or poor contact of the ABS relay can lead to system failure. The most common issue is a loose speed sensor wire connector causing malfunction, which will also display as a poor speed sensor signal in the ABS computer's fault memory. Solution: Check the wire connections and reconnect any loose parts.
