I usually enjoy studying the technical details of various cars and am quite familiar with BMW's radar system. When the radar displays red, it typically indicates that the distance to an obstacle is only about 30 centimeters or even closer. BMW vehicles use ultrasonic sensors to detect distance, with the system transitioning from green at longer distances to yellow and then to red, where red represents the highest alert level. At this point, the system emits rapid beeping sounds to prompt you to stop immediately, otherwise, it's easy to scrape the car. I've personally tested this on different models like the 3 Series and X3, and the actual distance may vary slightly due to sensor settings. Rainy weather or dirt covering the sensors can reduce accuracy, so keeping the sensors clean is crucial. If you notice system anomalies, such as frequent false red alerts, it might indicate a need for a software update or a hardware issue, and you should promptly visit a dealership for inspection to avoid dangers while driving.
