At what age does a Class A license get downgraded?

A Class A license holder must go to the vehicle management office to exchange their license for a Class C1 or C2 license when they reach the age of 60, but this is not considered a downgrade. The driver's license will not be automatically downgraded. If the license holder does not go through the exchange process, they will no longer be allowed to drive. Otherwise, they may face a fine of 1,000 yuan, 12 demerit points, and up to 15 days of administrative detention. According to the relevant provisions of China's "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses," drivers aged 60 or above are no longer permitted to drive large and medium-sized buses, trucks, tractors, or buses. Drivers holding Class A or B licenses must go to the vehicle management office to exchange their licenses for Class C1 or C2 licenses. Because large and medium-sized vehicles and special vehicles require higher physical strength and adaptability from drivers, for safety reasons, individuals aged 60 or above are generally not suitable for driving such vehicles and must adjust their permitted driving categories. Even after switching to a Class C license, drivers aged 70 or above must undergo an annual physical examination and submit proof of their physical condition to the vehicle management office. If they fail the physical examination, they will no longer be allowed to drive.
