Power steering fluid and hydraulic oil are not interchangeable. Although the power steering system also utilizes hydraulic principles to achieve its power-assist function, similar to the transmission system, hydraulic oil can be used in hydraulic power steering systems in emergency situations. However, hydraulic oil is primarily designed to transmit power, requiring low viscosity and high fluidity. In contrast, gear oil, which serves functions such as lubrication, cooling, and cleaning, has high viscosity and low fluidity requirements. Power steering fluid is a specialized liquid used in automotive power steering pumps, making the steering wheel easier to turn through hydraulic action, similar to automatic transmission fluid, brake fluid, and shock absorber fluid. Hydraulic oil is the medium used in hydraulic systems that utilize liquid pressure energy, playing roles in energy transmission, wear resistance, system lubrication, corrosion prevention, rust prevention, and cooling.
