Are out-of-town license plates restricted in Beijing during holidays?

Beijing does not impose restrictions on out-of-town license plates during holidays. Non-local motor vehicles are prohibited from entering roads within the Fifth Ring Road (including the Fifth Ring Road) with passenger cars from 7:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 on weekdays; from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, restrictions are imposed based on the last digit of the license plate number, with the restricted area being roads within the Fifth Ring Road (including the Fifth Ring Road). Regulations for out-of-town vehicles: 1. Restricted hours: Passenger cars are prohibited from traveling during the morning and evening peak hours on weekdays from 7:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 (no restrictions on Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays); trucks are prohibited from traveling from 6:00 to 24:00 every day. 2. Restricted areas: Passenger cars are restricted on the main and auxiliary roads of the Fifth Ring Road and roads within it, as well as some roads in Daxing District; trucks are restricted on roads within the Sixth Ring Road (including the Sixth Ring Road).
During holidays in Beijing, there are indeed traffic restrictions for non-local license plates. While the tail number restrictions for local license plates are suspended during holidays, the rules for non-local plates are different: vehicles with non-local plates entering areas within the Fifth Ring Road require a valid Beijing Entry Permit, otherwise, they may be fined. I remember during last year's Spring Festival when I traveled to Beijing, the authorities announced the cancellation of tail number restrictions, but non-local vehicles still needed an Entry Permit to drive in the city. It is recommended that non-local vehicle owners apply for an electronic Beijing Entry Permit via the 'Beijing Traffic Police' app one week in advance to avoid last-minute congestion. During holidays, traffic volume is high, and checkpoints increase, making driving without a permit quite troublesome. It's best to carry your documents with you and stay updated via the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau website to ensure a smooth trip.
