Are Brake Fluid and Clutch Fluid Interchangeable?
1 Answers
Brake fluid and clutch fluid are generally interchangeable, and in some vehicle models, they even share the same reservoir. Types of Brake Fluid: The most common types are DOT3 and DOT4. Vehicles originally using DOT3 standard can switch to DOT4, but those designed for DOT4 should not use DOT3 as a substitute, as it is toxic and corrosive to the skin. Usage Precautions: The type of fluid required is usually indicated on the reservoir cap. Ensure proper sealing to prevent exposure to air. Top up when levels are low, and replace the fluid when it becomes discolored or dirty—preferably every two years. In specialized racing scenarios, there may be dedicated clutch fluid specifically designed for clutch systems.
