Not all Cherokee models are imported. As of November 2019, all Cherokee models available in the market are produced by GAC FCA Jeep, which are joint-venture vehicles, not imported ones. Regarding the specific models of Cherokee currently on sale: the 2019 2.0L 2WD Premium Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 148; the 2019 2.0T 2WD Smart Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 234; the 2019 2.0T 4WD Exclusive Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 265; the 2019 2.0T 4WD Adventure Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 265; the 2019 2.0T 4WD All-round Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 265; and the 2019 2.0T 4WD High-performance Flagship Edition (China VI) has a maximum horsepower of 265.

As a car enthusiast, I'm quite familiar with the Jeep Cherokee. It's not all imported. In its early years in China, it was indeed imported, but around 2014 or 2015, GAC FCA started domestic production, and now most of the ones sold are locally made versions. I've test-driven the domestic model, which is much cheaper than the imported one—the starting price dropped by over 100,000 RMB, offering great value for money. The driving experience isn’t much different; the powertrain and safety are reliable. After localization, it was even adjusted for the Chinese market, like offering more interior space. I recommend checking the production label when buying—nowadays, the domestic version is widely available, while the imported one has become rare. Choosing the domestic Cherokee is a great deal—it’s fuel-efficient, comfortable, and easier to maintain.

I'm in the repair business and have seen quite a few Cherokees. Actually, not all of them are fully imported. The imported ones were the early batches, later GAC FCA localized production, mainly at the Changsha plant. The domestic version has stable parts supply, making repairs cheaper, unlike imported cars where you often have to wait for parts. In terms of quality, post-localization controls are strict, with overall high reliability—perfect for daily driving. After the price drop, many people switched to buying the domestic version. Although the imported ones have slightly finer craftsmanship, the difference isn't huge. I'd recommend prioritizing the domestic version—it's practical, cost-effective, and you won't have to worry about parts availability.

Let me talk about the Jeep Cherokee from a historical automotive perspective. Initially, the Cherokee was sold in China as an imported vehicle. However, with market changes, GAC FCA began domestic production starting from 2014. Nowadays, most Cherokees are manufactured in China, with noticeable quality improvements and more affordable pricing. After localization, the Cherokee's sales increased, meeting local demand. This isn't surprising, as many international brands follow this localization strategy. When choosing one, checking the production date can tell you whether it's domestically produced or imported.

Last year I bought a Cherokee, and the salesperson told me it wasn't imported but rather manufactured domestically by GAC Fiat Chrysler. The locally produced version is more affordable—I spent just over 200,000 RMB to drive it. It handles quite steadily with no major issues, and there are plenty of service centers. Compared to the imported model, it saves money and offers more attentive service. The domestic Cherokee is suitable for family use with slightly more space. I'd recommend considering the domestic version for its high cost performance.
