In the early hours of Monday, March 31, 2025, a speeding car carrying five engineering students from Dindigul slammed into a stationary lorry on National Highway 66 near Panambikkunnu Centre in Kaipamangalam, Thrissur. All five occupants died instantly. The lorry was parked illegally on the roadside, with no lights, reflectors, or warning markers to alert approaching drivers. Eyewitnesses said two other heavy trucks that had also been parked dangerously fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The victims were returning from Guruvayur when their vehicle hit the rear of the truck with such force that the car was completely crushed. Police arrived to find the wreckage barely recognizable. The deceased have been identified as students of a private engineering college in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Their families have been notified and are en route to Thrissur for post-mortem procedures at the Government Medical College.
