April 17, 2025 – BMW Group has introduced the Mini Cooper Convertible Stardust Edition, a limited-run variant now on sale in India with a sticker price of ₹62.90 lakh (approximately $76,000). The special edition carries a premium of ₹3.9 lakh (around $4,700) over the standard Cooper Convertible and is aimed at buyers who view their car as an extension of personal style.
The Stardust Edition is the latest move by Mini to reinforce its lifestyle-focused image in emerging luxury markets. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, described the model as “the car for those who are open to fun and also enjoy making a distinct lifestyle statement.” Brar added that the edition is engineered for fans who see their vehicle “as a bold expression of individuality that remains magnificently rare by design on the road.”
Visually, the Stardust Edition stands out with a sparkling copper grey exterior finish. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are painted in a contrasting vibrant silver, and the car sits on 18-inch JCW Rallye Spoke alloy wheels finished in the same silver shade. The most distinctive design element is the folding soft top, which features a Union Jack graphic and can be fully opened or closed in just 18 seconds at speeds up to 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph).
Safety equipment includes Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, three-point seatbelts for all four seats, and a tire pressure monitoring system. While the car is currently exclusive to India, enthusiasts in the U.S. may wonder whether a similar Stardust Edition will reach American shores.
Industry analysts note that Mini has traditionally reserved its most flamboyant special editions for markets like Europe and Asia, where buyers embrace the brand’s retro-chic identity more aggressively. In the United States, the continued demand for open-top driving experiences—especially in coastal markets like California and Florida—makes a Stardust-style convertible a plausible candidate for a future launch. BMW Group has not announced any plans to bring the model to North America, but the use of the Union Jack graphic could appeal to American buyers who associate the design with British heritage and exclusivity.
Under the hood, the Stardust Edition shares the same powertrain as the standard Cooper Convertible: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The car achieves 0-60 mph in approximately 7.2 seconds. Given the modest performance bump over the standard model, the Stardust’s appeal clearly lies in aesthetics and scarcity rather than raw speed.
For comparison, the 2025 Mini Cooper Convertible in the U.S. starts at around $35,600 for the base model. The Stardust Edition’s Indian price works out to more than double that amount, reflecting import duties, luxury taxes, and the premium for limited-edition content. In the U.S., a similar package would likely be priced in the mid-$40,000 range, making it a more accessible proposition for collectors.
The Stardust Edition joins a growing roster of performance and design-focused variants in Mini’s lineup. With only a small number of units allocated for India, the model is expected to sell out quickly among brand loyalists. The car is available for booking at all Mini dealerships across India.
As Mini continues to experiment with exclusive editions, the Stardust Convertible serves as a testbed for future design language. Whether or not it becomes a global offering, it underscores Mini’s commitment to blending nostalgia with modern engineering, all while keeping its smallest convertible as quirky and individualistic as ever.
