FORD COUNTY, Ill. – A serious crash near the intersection of Routes 9 and 115 in Ford County has prompted authorities to ask the public to steer clear of the area. The incident occurred Friday afternoon, March 28, 2025, with emergency crews working the scene.
The Paxton Fire Department issued an alert at 2:17 p.m. Friday, confirming its crews responded to the accident. The department urged drivers to find an alternate route if they planned to travel through that intersection. Traffic is expected to be slowed or restricted while responders are active.
No additional details about the number of vehicles involved or the severity of injuries have been released yet. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. As of late Friday afternoon, the scene remained active with emergency vehicles present.
Added value: This crash follows a separate fatal incident in DeWitt County earlier in the week where one person died and another was life-flighted. While not directly related, the back-to-back collisions highlight the need for caution on rural Illinois highways during the spring season when road conditions can change quickly.
Motorists are reminded to slow down, give emergency responders extra room, and watch for additional emergency vehicles entering the area. The Paxton Fire Department and Illinois State Police are handling the investigation.
