Today, August 5, 2025, BYD officially announced that its all-new Qin Max sedan will hit the market on August 13 at 7:30 PM Beijing time. The model is the latest flagship in the Qin family, bringing ultra-fast charging and advanced driver assistance to a compact sedan segment that has seen intense competition.
The Qin Max slots above the popular Qin L, serving as the top-tier offering in BYD’s best-selling Qin lineup. The company’s Dynasty network first teased the car on July 13, with general manager Lu Tian dubbing it the “super large cup” of the Qin family. Official images of a light pink exterior and a “Dawn Purple” interior dropped shortly after, and display units began arriving at dealerships from late July.
Flash-charging as a differentiator
The headline feature is BYD’s flash-charging technology, which the company unveiled in March 2025 with a peak single-gun power of 1,500 kW. According to BYD, vehicles equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. This puts the Qin Max in a league of its own among B-segment sedans, where typical charging speeds hover around 300–400 kW.
The new sedan also comes with the God’s Eye B driver assistance system, a mid-tier ADAS that likely includes highway pilot and automated parking features. While BYD has not released full specifications for the Qin Max’s autonomous capabilities, the system is expected to rival offerings from Tesla and XPeng at a lower price point.
Sizing up the competition
The Qin Max measures 4,866 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,495 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. That makes it slightly larger than the Qin L and roughly the same size as the Tesla Model 3. In China, the B-segment electric sedan market is increasingly crowded, with the Xiaomi SU7, Geely Galaxy E5, and NIO ET5 all vying for buyers.
