As of March 20, 2025, Erebus Motorsport is set to receive a significant boost with Brad Tremain officially stepping back into the Team Principal role starting this weekend at The Bend’s AirTouch 500. The move comes after a two-year absence during which Tremain worked with IndyCar powerhouse Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, gaining fresh perspectives on team management and resource allocation.

Tremain’s return fills a vacancy that had been open since early 2024, when the team restructured following a championship double and Bathurst victories. His history with Erebus runs deep: he spent nine years with the squad from 2016 to 2024, climbing from a number two mechanic to Crew Chief and eventually Team Principal. During his previous tenure, he oversaw the 2023 championship double and Bathurst wins in 2017 and 2024—achievements that cemented his reputation as a hands-on leader.

Now, Tremain is bringing lessons learned abroad back to the Supercars paddock. “In the U.S., I saw how big teams with big budgets operate, and I also noticed where their resources could be used more effectively,” he said. “In the past, I focused more on the cars themselves. This time, I’m putting more attention on the people running them.” His priorities for the remainder of the season include improving car speed and reliability, uniting the crew, and lifting morale across the organization.

Erebus currently sits 11th in the teams’ championship, a position far below the lofty standards set in 2023. The Bend event represents a critical opportunity to turn the season around. Tremain’s familiarity with the team culture and his recent exposure to IndyCar’s data-driven approach could provide an edge. “Erebus is my home. Baz (CEO Ryan) is a really good mate, and I want to go racing with him and the rest of the crew again. I just love Supercars,” he added.

CEO Barry Ryan echoed the sentiment. “It’s always nice when someone you like and respect comes home. Brad is one of the most passionate racers I know. He has all the skills needed to run a race team—mechanical, engineering, and management experience—gained largely during his eight years with Erebus. I know the skills he learned in IndyCar will make him an even bigger asset. He’ll be the best team principal in pit lane, but also someone willing to do pit stops if needed. His versatility is unquestionable.”

The addition of Tremain is not only a morale boost but also a strategic move. With the Supercars season entering a critical phase, teams are looking for any advantage. Tremain’s experience in a high-pressure IndyCar environment—where races are often decided by split-second pit stops and strategic calls—could translate well to the Australian series. He noted that he observed how American teams balance large budgets with efficient workflows, and he plans to implement similar efficiencies at Erebus.

Industry observers see Tremain’s return as a stabilizing force for a team that has experienced turnover since its championship peak. “Having someone who knows the culture and the personnel inside out is invaluable,” said motorsport analyst Mark Fogarty. “Brad’s time in IndyCar likely gave him a broader view of how to manage a team under pressure. Erebus needs that right now.”

The Bend’s 4.95-kilometer circuit presents a unique challenge—high-speed corners and a mix of technical sections demand precise car setup and driver feedback. Tremain’s background as a mechanic means he can still get under the hood if needed, but his new focus is on empowering the crew. “I want to create an environment where everyone feels they can contribute,” he said. “That’s how you win races.”

The AirTouch 500 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Erebus Motorsport. With Tremain back at the helm, the team hopes to climb the standings and reestablish itself as a front-runner. The next few races will be telling, but the early signs are positive: the crew is energized, and the strategic direction is clearer than it has been in months.

For fans of Supercars, Tremain’s return adds a compelling narrative to the season. His ability to blend old-school passion with modern management techniques could be the recipe Erebus needs to return to victory lane. As the green flag drops at The Bend, all eyes will be on the revived leadership in the Erebus garage.
