Boulder Highway accident

LAS VEGAS — A pedestrian was gravely injured Tuesday morning when a car struck them on Boulder Highway near Nellis Boulevard. The collision shut down the southbound side of the highway while police and medics worked the scene. This report was updated on May 8, 2026.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded just after 5 a.m. The pedestrian, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to a local trauma center with serious injuries. The driver remained at the scene, and no arrests have been announced.

The roadway closure disrupted the early commute. Vehicles backed up from the crash site toward the Nellis intersection, and officers directed traffic onto side streets. Travelers on that side of the valley were advised to use Pecos Road or Lamb Boulevard as alternates until the lane reopened.

This stretch of Boulder Highway has been a recurring concern for pedestrian safety. It's a high-speed arterial lined with hotels, RV parks and apartment communities, and it lacks protected crossings in several spots. Federal data consistently places Nevada among the highest states for pedestrian fatality rates, and local transportation officials have scheduled safety audits along the corridor.

The LVMPD collision investigation section is handling the case. They're looking at vehicle data, road conditions and witness statements to determine what happened. Anyone with information is asked to contact police by phone or through Crime Stoppers. Until the investigation is complete, officials aren't commenting on whether speed or impairment played a role.

Motorists can check live closure status through Nevada 511 or the Regional Transportation Commission's traffic map. This article will be updated if more details are released.
