On April 11, 2025, Audi officially unveiled the A2 e-tron, a compact electric hatchback that revives a nameplate last seen in the early 2000s. The new model claims the title of the most energy-efficient Audi ever, with a WLTP range of up to 630 kilometers (391 miles) and a drag coefficient of just 0.24. Audi says the A2 e-tron is a “renewal” for the brand, blending premium features with a strong focus on sustainability and recycled materials.
A nameplate reborn
The original A2, produced from 2000 to 2005, was a small, all-aluminium people mover that struggled to find buyers due to its high price and upright design. The new A2 e-tron takes a different approach: a conventional crossover-style hatchback with a slippery body that helps it cut through the air. Audi claims the 0.24 Cd is among the best in its class, contributing directly to the impressive range figures.
Four powertrain choices
At launch, the A2 e-tron is offered in four power levels: 125 kW, 140 kW, 170 kW, and 240 kW. Each is paired with one of three battery packs: 52 kWh, 61 kWh, or 84 kWh. All versions are rear-wheel drive, powered by a single permanently excited synchronous motor.
The entry-level 125 kW model with the 52 kWh battery consumes 13.7 kWh/100 km and delivers a WLTP range of 423 km (263 miles). The top-tier 240 kW variant with the 84 kWh battery uses 14.2 kWh/100 km and reaches 630 km (391 miles). But the real efficiency star is the 140 kW version equipped with the optional efficiency package, which achieves just 12.8 kWh/100 km – making it the most efficient Audi ever built, according to the company.
Tech and sustainability highlights
The A2 e-tron comes with a 12.8-inch curved multimedia touchscreen and an 11.9-inch digital cockpit as standard. Optional features include bidirectional charging (V2L and V2H), DC fast-charging at up to 183 kW, and an AI-powered Audi Assistant integrated with Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
