One month after the deadly mass shooting on Biltmore Avenue in Asheville, North Carolina, police have seized a key vehicle and identified multiple suspects and co-conspirators, authorities announced Tuesday.
The shooting erupted around 2:20 a.m. on a Sunday morning in late March 2025, in the bustling entertainment district of Biltmore Avenue. Officers responding to the scene found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds, a car riddled with bullet holes, and a bullet hole in a nearby apartment window. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and seven others were injured, with two of those victims listed in critical condition.
Asheville Police Department spokesperson said in a statement released April 8 that investigators have been working around the clock since the tragedy. “We have seized several pieces of critical evidence, physical and digital,” the spokesperson said. “Thanks to their diligent efforts, we believe that we have located and seized the vehicle used in the commission of this crime.”
The statement also confirmed that forensics personnel have linked the Biltmore Avenue shooting to other incidents of gun violence in western North Carolina. Police have not disclosed the nature of those connections, but the development suggests a broader pattern of violence that may involve multiple suspects or groups.
“We have identified several suspects and co-conspirators,” the spokesperson added. “Our investigators and all of our LEO [law enforcement officers] partners have been working continuously. This work will not stop until those involved in this tragedy are brought to justice.”
The victims’ identities have not been released pending notification of family members. The two deceased individuals were pronounced dead on scene, and the seven injured victims were transported to local hospitals. As of April 8, two victims remain in critical condition, according to hospital sources.
The community has been on edge since the shooting, which occurred in one of Asheville’s most popular nightlife areas. Local businesses temporarily closed in the aftermath, and city officials have increased patrols in the district.
“We are grateful for the public’s cooperation,” the police spokesperson said. “We continue to ask anyone with information – no matter how insignificant it may seem – to contact us directly at 828-252-1110 or anonymously through the TIP2APD App.”
The investigation is active and ongoing. Police have not yet released a description of the seized vehicle or the names of the suspects. Further details are expected in the coming days.
This shooting adds to a troubling trend of gun violence in western North Carolina. According to the Gun Violence Archive, the region has seen a 15% increase in mass shootings over the past year. Community leaders and advocacy groups are calling for more resources to address the root causes of violence.
“We cannot become numb to these tragedies,” said Rev. Marcus Johnson, a local pastor involved in violence prevention. “The police are doing their job, but we need a community-wide effort to stop the bloodshed.”
As the investigation continues, Asheville police urge anyone with additional information to come forward. The TIP2APD App allows anonymous tips, and the department has set up a dedicated hotline. Officials say they are committed to solving this case and preventing future incidents.
