KANSAS CITY — On April 27, police arrested two robbery suspects and recovered weapons after a foot chase.
According to a social media post from the Kansas City Police Department, Rapid Deployment officers spotted a vehicle used in an armed robbery and attempted a traffic stop. The suspects abandoned the car and ran, but officers caught up with them on foot. One of the recovered firearms had been reported stolen, police said.
The department’s helicopter unit provided aerial tracking and helped officers pinpoint the suspects’ location during the chase, which KCPD said was critical to the arrests.
One suspect, a felon in possession of a gun, is being extradited out of state. The other suspect is facing a charge, and more charges could be filed.
Under Missouri law, convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms, a rule that strengthens the case against the first suspect. The Rapid Deployment Team is part of KCPD’s effort to target repeat violent offenders in high-crime neighborhoods.
Police did not mention any injuries in the initial report. The names of the suspects have not been made public. Anyone with information is asked to call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline. The investigation is ongoing.
