ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in the Fairview area. Anchorage Police Department officers responded around 7:53 a.m. to East 15th Avenue and Medfra Street, where the pedestrian was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with investigators, police said. As of Tuesday, no charges had been filed, and the case remains under active review by APD’s Traffic Section.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s name, stating that family members need to be notified first. Investigators also have not disclosed whether the pedestrian was using a crosswalk, a detail that may be key to determining fault.
The collision took place on a busy roadway that bisects the Fairview neighborhood during the morning commute. While preliminary information suggests a single vehicle was involved, detectives are working to reconstruct the sequence of events and are examining all factors, including vehicle speed and road conditions.
Police are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers to come forward. They also want to hear from anyone with surveillance cameras, dashcams, or other equipment that may have captured the incident. Tips can be submitted to APD Dispatch at 311 or (907) 786-8900. Anonymous information can be provided through the Crime Stoppers online portal.
Traffic detectives have not set a timeline for releasing additional details. The investigation comes as the city continues efforts to reduce pedestrian deaths, a priority for APD and the Municipality of Anchorage. Residents in the neighborhood have raised concerns about safety at similar intersections in the past.
In the meantime, police are reminding both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert at all street crossings, especially during dawn and dusk hours when visibility is reduced. No further information is expected until the victim’s family is notified and the investigation reaches a further stage.
