March 2025 – Kia has officially launched the 2026 Sorento in India, starting at a surprisingly low ₹27.99 lakh (roughly $33,700). While the Indian-market Sorento shares its platform and basic design with the US model, the powertrain lineup, feature content, and pricing differ significantly. For American buyers familiar with the Sorento, this Indian launch offers a fascinating glimpse into how Kia tailors its global SUV for different markets.
The Indian Sorento is offered in an astonishing 16 variants, spanning diesel and strong-hybrid powertrains, with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and 6- or 7-seat configurations. Prices range from ₹27.99 lakh (≈ $33,700) for the base diesel FWD 7-seater to ₹40.39 lakh (≈ $48,600) for the top-spec strong-hybrid AWD 6-seater Black Line.
By contrast, the 2025 US Sorento starts at $33,365 (including destination) for the base LX with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, and ranges up to $49,955 for the plug-in hybrid SX Prestige. The US model does not offer a diesel engine, and its hybrid system is a conventional (non-plug-in) hybrid on the HEV trims, while India gets a strong-hybrid (self-charging) with a 1.6L turbo-petrol.
Key difference: India’s Sorento is more affordable at the entry level but lacks the plug-in hybrid option available in the US. The Indian lineup also offers a rare diesel–AWD combination, which is absent in the US.
The Indian-spec Sorento looks nearly identical to its US counterpart, with the same tiger-nose grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, and squared-off taillamps. However, India gets 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels as standard, whereas US base models use 17-inch wheels. The Indian model also features a chrome skid plate and roof rails, which are similar to US X-Line or X-Pro trims.
Color options differ: India offers eight shades including Glacier White Pearl, Pewter Olive, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Magma Red, Ivory Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, and Dark Gun Metal. The US palette includes shades like Everlasting Silver, Gravity Grey, and Glacial White Pearl, but lacks Pewter Olive and Magma Red.
Inside, the Indian Sorento impresses with a 12.3-inch dual-screen setup (digital cluster + infotainment), a 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front and rear seats, a powered tailgate, head-up display, and connected car technology. Many of these features are also available on US mid- and higher-trims, but India offers them at a lower price point.
Where the US Sorento wins: The American model offers a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen (available on higher trims, same size), but also includes optional features like a panoramic sunroof (standard on many US trims) and a 14.6-inch rear-seat entertainment screen, which is not available in India. The US also offers a 2.5L turbo with 281 hp, far more powerful than India’s diesel or hybrid.
Safety: The Indian Sorento comes with Level 2 ADAS, 8 airbags, ESC, TPMS, 360-degree camera, and hill descent control. It earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The US Sorento has also earned top safety scores from IIHS and NHTSA, but ADAS features like Highway Driving Assist are standard on most trims.
