Contribute to a clean and efficient recycling facility Job Summary: The Sorter manually identifies, sorts, and separates recoverable commodities (e.g., paper, plastics, glass, and metals) from a moving conveyor belt. This position requires a strong focus on safety, as sorters must prevent blockages, adhere to strict environmental guidelines, and maintain a clean and efficient facility. Key Responsibilities Material Separation: Manually sort through waste materials moving along a conveyor belt, segregating items by commodity, type, size, condition, or grade. Contaminant Removal: Identify and remove non-recyclable waste, garbage, and hazardous materials from the recycling stream to ensure high-quality outbound products. Equipment Monitoring: Monitor conveyor belts and machinery to prevent jams, and notify supervisors or equipment operators of large debris or special waste loads. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all facility safety policies, including using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests. Be prepared to stop the conveyor belt in emergency situations. Housekeeping & Maintenance: Assist with cleaning the sorting line, sweeping the floor, and performing general maintenance around the plant as required. Experience: No prior experience is usually required; on-the-job training is frequently provided, though previous warehouse or manufacturing experience is a plus. Physical Stamina: Must be able to stand for long periods, perform repetitive physical tasks, and safely lift up to 30 to 50 lbs. Working Environment: Comfortable working in an industrial setting that can be fast-paced, loud, dusty, and subject to seasonal temperature variations and odors. Attention to Detail: Ability to quickly identify different types of materials and hazardous items in a high-speed environment.
