The primary responsibilities of the Lab Assistant are: to be responsible for providing administrative support (such as intake, Quality Assurance, communication, and charge entry), for the pathology lab. Duties and Responsibilities Intake and processing of specimens. Input data into Electronic Medical Records Nextech. Log incoming slides and prepares slides for physician. Log Pathology Reports, accession and pull charts for physician review. File slides and blocks. Compliance to safety regulations. Review all slides and documentation to ensure information is accurate May assist with maintenance of Quality Control and Quality Assurance processes May assist with ordering laboratory supplies and appropriately store supplies. May assist with maintenance of current policies and procedures for all lab functions. May assist with the overall responsibility for maintenance and storage of all lab records and patient slides, according to law. Input of diagnosis codes to prepare for finalizing reports for pathologists. Any other duties as required to ensure QualDerm Partners' operations are successful. Requirements At least 1-2 years experience in lab or medical office setting required Understanding of medical terminology preferred. As we say, “you’re either taking care of our patient or taking care of those caring for our patient.” PURPOSE: This position delivers exceptional patient service by performing duties entailing preparation of tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to be used in the assistance of confirming a diagnosis provided by the pathologist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: May assist with receipt of specimens and accessioning paraffin cases May assist with printing cassettes, slides and slide labels. May assist with filing slides and pulling slides pertaining to prior cases. Perform quality assurance checks Verify slide and block match for each case Compiles cases and ensures slides are placed with corresponding patient requisition information. Ensures stat cases are seen by pathologist with urgency, as soon as available. Examines and prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis. File blocks and slides appropriately. Log cases in the biopsy book. Understands slide stainer, staining cycles and able to load/unload slide stainer. Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist. Prepares slides of specimens, using specified stain, to enhance visibility under microscope. Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. Submit any outside materials that are needed for review. May performs histochemistry (special stains) and immunohistochemistry (antibody dedection) studies. Manages unexpected lab situations, such as problems with instruments or detecting health problems that may cause unusual test results. Operates and maintains instruments used for tissue processing, paraffin embedding and sectioning of specimens. Performs recuts and additional stains including special and IHC stains, as requested by the Pathologist. Maintain QC/QA records. Maintain documentation as required by CLIA guidelines. Monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment on a regular basis; order supplies for laboratory. Maintain log of supplies as they are ordered. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of lab design and operation Minimum of two years of experience in a lab setting preferred Excellent written and oral communication skills Detail oriented Able to demonstrate independent judgment and initiative appropriately Must be able to tolerate standing and walking for 8 hours per day. Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard (40 WPM minimum) and ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Products. Ability to document patient records using proper grammar, spelling, and syntax. Must have full range of body motion with the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, stand, stoop, stretch, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds. Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. POSITION SUMMARY: The Travel Mohs Histotech will provide histotechnical services at various locations as needed, ensuring high-quality pathology support in the treatment of skin cancer patients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Travel to different clinic locations to perform Mohs histotechnology procedures as required. Prepare, cut, and stain frozen and paraffin sections using Mohs techniques to assist surgeons in real-time evaluations. Accurately map and label tissue specimens according to established protocols. Maintain equipment and ensure proper operation in multiple clinical settings. Interact with patients and clinical teams in a professional and supportive manner. Adhere to laboratory safety and compliance standards as mandated by CLIA and OSHA. Document and maintain accurate records of procedures and findings. Participate in continuous training and development to enhance histotechnology skills. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized working environment at all travel locations. Contribute to team efforts to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. Requirements EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or equivalent with a focus on high complexity testing. Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in Mohs histotechnology. Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to various clinical environments. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various locations.
