Collaborative role working with staff, partners, and volunteers ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW The mission of the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank (VFB) is to work with the community to increase our island’s food security and connect people to supporting resources that help them thrive. We achieve these goals by providing free groceries every week through pick-up or home delivery, free summer meals for youth and adults, and connections to other empowering resources and services. We believe that building a truly inclusive culture is essential for all our employees to bring their authentic, whole selves to work and experience a sense of belonging and support. ______________________________________________________________________________ POSITION SUMMARY The Vashon Food Bank’s Picnics in the Park has been the island’s only free summer meals program since 2014. Free, nutritious lunches are prepared by the Program Coordinator with help from program volunteers in the kitchen at the Vashon United Methodist Church and are offered to any and all island youth, along with engaging activities, at Ober Park and the Burton Adventure Recreation Area (BARC). Lunches are also delivered to Vashon Kids, a summer youth program operated by Vashon Youth and Family Services. The program serves lunches to nearly 200 island youth every weekday and over 8000 lunches over the course of the summer. The Picnics in the Park Program Manager will oversee all aspects of the program, including weekly food purchasing, meal prep, meal distribution to multiple locations, scheduling and coordinating activities in Ober Park and program data collection and reporting. This is a fun, public-facing position that interacts with a wide variety of island families to ensure that our island’s youth remain active and food secure over the summer months! KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Work with VFB Volunteer Manager to recruit and schedule program volunteers to help with food prep, distribution, and activities Work with VFB Operations Manager to develop regular food purchasing schedule Supervise program staff and volunteers to ensure that meal preparation and distribution are efficient and in-line with public health standards, Provide clear communication with customers, donors and the general public on behalf of the agency Design and conduct client surveys in order to quantify and qualify program outcomes Collect and compile client demographic and service data to produce an end-of-season report Work closely and collaboratively with all VFB staff, community partners, and other nonprofits, as needed Understand and adhere to VFB policies around confidentiality and all standards of conduct as described in the VFB Employee Handbook Other duties as assigned EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & TRAINING Experience supervising volunteers Experience with data collection and reporting Requires valid Washington State Driver License Must be 21 years of age or older (due to insurance requirements) English and Spanish language proficiency preferred WA Food Worker Card ESSENTIAL ABILITIES Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient and effective manner Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and work with staff to implement changes Ability to communicate orally and in writing with other organizations and people of diverse backgrounds and to interact professionally with the general public to effectively represent the agency Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent customer service skills Ability to maintain accurate records and observe appropriate levels of confidentiality Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Word and Excel, and the Google Suite Ability to confidently drive a large vehicle (Ford Transit Van) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING ENVIRONMENT Reasonable accommodation can be made to ensure people with disabilities are able to perform the described essential functions.
